Get rid of self doubt once and for all

This time of resolutions and new plans to start the year, it's the right time to talk about that sneaky little devil that comes to ruin the party.

Around mid January, after all the natural excitement new plans bring wears off, and after our body's done processing all the sugar we have consumed during Christmas time, slowly but surely, self-doubt starts to creep in.

I'm not mentioning this "little bastard" to put a stop to all your plans (and mine as well). I mention this because I think that by being aware of what is likely to happen, we will be better equipped to deal with it and completely wreck all the self-doubt mechanisms.

Here are my very personal tips on how you can overcome these moments that can ruin your chances of moving forward.

Usually self-doubt appears in our inner dialogue.
It is crucial to be able to identify these voices, that usually say one of two things:

01. “Yeah right, how are you gonna do that?!?(insert smirk here)”
02. “You see, other people already do that much better than you. Now just go back to the couch, come on...!

There may be other formulations, but the meaning is more or less the same.
So step #1 is to identify the critical internal dialogue. Basically just listen to what's going on inside your head.

Naturally step #2 is to ignore these voices with every fiber in your being.

How?
One way is to share these thoughts with other people: husband, girlfriend, best friend... This demands a great level of exposure, vulnerability and courage.

But what will usually happen is that the other person will identify these criticisms as ridiculous!
This will help you identify what these voices say as lies, making it easier to ignore them next time they have the guts to show up (which will not take long).

Step #3 is about actively fighting this internal critical dialoggue, by creating a more positive one.
With a set of motivational quotes you read every morning.
With a daily meditation moment repeating a positive mantra ("I believe in me").

This step may feel a little ridiculous, but it's the simplest and most dynamic way of affecting your inner dialogue.
A bit of “Fake it 'til you make it”: at some point these sentences will enter your subconscious mind, almost like a song that you heard over and over again on the radio. They will start "playing" in your head, replacing the critical sentences.

This step can be reinforced visually.
Put up motivational posters or notes on your bathroom mirror, on your office wall or on your computer screen.
